Why I created Ask Me Instead

Hi, I’m Mimi.

The idea started with a conversation. The reason became personal.

One day, a very special friend, Álvaro, called me and said something that stayed with me:

“Mimi, you know what we could do? We could help older people understand technology and the digital world.”

At first, it was simply an idea.

Then I thought about my parents.

They use technology every day — their phones, email, apps, banking, travel. But every so often something changes. A new screen appears. An app asks for something they’ve never seen before. A password stops working.

And I get the call.

“Where do I click?”

“What does this mean?”

“Can you show me how to do this?”

That’s when the idea became something much more personal.

I realized my parents weren’t struggling because they were incapable of using technology. Technology simply keeps changing, and somehow people are expected to keep up without anyone stopping to explain the new parts.

And I knew they couldn’t be the only ones.

That conversation planted the seed. My parents showed me why it mattered.

And that became Ask Me Instead — a place where you can learn something, try something, or simply ask someone when the digital world changes again.
